It’s easy?

It’s easy to be a Hindu and criticise Islam.
It’s easy to be an Indian and talk about Baluchistan.
It’s easy to be an American and bash Israel.
It’s easy to be a man and criticise Feminism.
It’s easy to be a communist and criticise capitalism.
It’s difficult to be a Hindu and criticise Hinduism.
It’s difficult to be a Muslim and criticise Islam.
It’s difficult to be an Indian and talk about Kashmir.
It’s difficult to be a Pakistani and talk about Baluchistan.
It’s difficult to be an American and criticise Americanism.
It’s difficult to be a man and criticise patriarchy.
It’s difficult to be a communist and criticise the left.

The thing about constructive criticism is that it has to come from inside of the system to have a positive impact or else it is often dismissed as allegations and hate speech.

Private, Public and State

We’re living in a neoliberal world where one can’t get proper education in govt schools or treatment in govt hospitals, in fact every govt facility is viewed with disgust and suspicion. From education to health to public transportation to job market we all can witness an increasing withdrawal of State.
If we have to pay the private players for everything that a welfare state promises to do for its citizens why are we asked to pay taxes to the state in the first place? To buy bombs and bullets that are being used against its own masses??
This state hegemony is an interesting phemenon, on one hand it believes in gradual withdrawal of its influence from all spheres of a citizen’s welfare while on the other hand it demands from its citizens a complete physical and psychological surrender towards its rule.
It’s the masses under the state subjugation that are forced to grow food, join army, fight wars, pay taxes and keep the machinery running and the same masses are asked to prove their loyalty from time to time.
This is done by maintain the delusion that state is feeding and protecting the masses not the other way round. The same state that is being run by the Bourgeois class that is buying colonies in poor countries and political class whose children are settled abroad.
In the second world war 3 million died in the great Bengal famine but today each year more than 3 million are starved to death in other words we are having a Bengal holocaust every year. We live in a nation where 70℅ people live on less than $2 a day and the state expects these people can afford expensive educational and medical facilities of the private sectors. The Indian state is just replicating the American model undermining the fact that India is still a third world nation.
After all this the state expects us to remain loyal to a bunch of oligarchs and fund our own oppression. State is nothing but the coldest of all cold monsters, everything it says is a lie and everything it has is stolen.
Let the Bourgeois class bear the burden of nationalist pride, life is already a war for the commoners.

Fringe groups or state sponsored terrorists???

Ever since this far right Hindutva fascist govt came to power in 2014 who ate what became a bigger question that who ate how much!!
Last year the father of an air force employee was brutally lynched by a saffron terror faction over the suspicion of having consumed beef!
What’s interesting is that instead of showing any interest to nab those fanatics the state machinery showed more enthusiasm about knowing the nature of meat stored in the fridge of the victim.
It’s hilarious that it took them almost a year to find out what kind of meat was stored in the fridge which not only reveals the impotency of Indian police and judicial system but also throws some light on why it takes 20 years to get justice in India!
Anyways, the apologists of Hinduta fascism will tell you these are rarest of the rare events carried out by “fringe elements.”
But what’s really scary and the matter of biggest concern is the fact that these are not fringe elements and its proof is all around us. When senior leaders of this fascist Govt openly call for a final battle against minorities by swearing to carry out such attacks all across the nation, when union ministers in the govt show open support for these savages and when politician turned saints make appeals for a Muslim free India and starting a civil war it would be foolish to assume such terror strikes are random events carried out by fringe elements!
All this simply indicates that these fanatics who carry out lynching, murders and rapes in the name of cow and the degraded Indian culture aren’t goons or fringe elements but storm troopers of the fascists in power or rather state sponsored Saffron terrorists!!
After all when a saffron terror faction openly threatens the police and state with riots and mass murders in the city if no legal action is taken against the victim’s family and those fanatics sitting in the center shamelessly say that the victim won’t have had consumed the beef alone simply shows to what extent this fascist govt supports it’s sponsored terrorists!
Frankly speaking I have never seen such kind of insane polarization in my entire life. Everyone acts insane or seems to have abandoned all reasons! Never before fascism revealed itself so shamelessly and so blatantly.
Gandhi once said I’d never kill a cow for a man just like I’d not kill a man for a cow! It’s clearly the fight between Hind Swaraj of Gandhi and Hindutva of the British stooge Savarkar. It’s a fight between those who know how to think and those who know how to hate. And its battleground will be schools, colleges, Universities and our very mind.
The choices we make today will decide the future of this country. We can either become a welfare state like any advanced nation or we can become Hindu Talibans. We can either take a giant leap towards a better world of Tagore’s poems or we can go back to the dark ages of theocracy and feudalism.
All depends on what we chose to think today!

Suicide and Murder

Farmer forced to sell his harvest at an unbelievably low rates.
Consumer forced to buy edibles at an unbelievably high rates.
Who’s profiting if everyone’s at loss?
They can waste millions on naked sadhus bathing in rivers.
They got money to absolve corporate debt
They can provide free lunch to CEOs
But they want money to send ‘relief’ to drought hit India
Wait, is it a drought?
Nah, it’s a water crisis.
When social, economic and political predators team up together
this is what you get
You’re still wondering why 52 farmers commit suicide everyday?
Wait, are these suicides?
Nah, it doesn’t seems so.
These are murders, “institutional murders”, “institutional massacres”

Mother India? Whose Mother??

From a 10 year old child bride to a loose replica of a Hindu Goddess the Mother India has represented everything that is reactionary, bigoted, anti reformist and fanatically conservative about the Indian society as since the beginning she happened to be the Mother of all those reactionaries who rigorously opposed social reforms but somehow were against the British raj.

The book Mother India by Katherine Mayo would rather give you a better Idea about India than a white skinned, curvy, beautiful, deity like woman covered with gold and gems, wearing an expensive saree and holding a saffron flag!

Can this be the mother of a country having the largest population of poor? Can this be the mother of a country of brown skinned people?  Can this be the mother of a nation where every second child is malnourished? Can this be the mother of a country that still practices untouchability, forced slavery and feudal oppression? Can this be the mother of a nation that has 15 million women in prostitution? Can this be the mother of a nation that houses a militant patriarchal society where men respect dead female idols more than females in flesh and blood?

Is anyone ready to accept an exhausted poor, old, fragile, brown skinned woman as their Mother India? A weak skinny woman wearing a tattered saree, holding a tricolour and not adorned with golden ornaments but enslaved with iron chains of oppression?

In 1947 our founding fathers and mothers freed her from the chains of political oppression but she’s still held by the chains of economic and social oppression. Are we ready to free her? But first of all are we even ready to acknowledge the fact that our Mother India is enslaved by the chains of social and economic injustice???????????????

Rise rise!

Caste and religion based violence have been a reality of this nation since independence. But it’s also a reality that communal violence is on the rise since the Hindu fundamentalists took over and it’s a fact that is even accepted by govt and non govt bodies. Never has the country witnessed a regime that is openly tolerant towards intolerance, never has the country seen a govt whose leaders and ministers appear to have come up with a roster system of delivering hate speech never has the country witnessed an HRD minister giving hate speech on the parliament floor.

Never has the republic witnessed an era of extreme jingoistic nationalism where every debate and discussion has been reduced to the binary of nationalism and anti nationalism. And needless to say never has the county been ruled on the most toxic mixture of governance i.e. liberalism in trade and conservatism in culture.

What do we get when we combine all this? An exclusive, fanatical, and jingoistic form of nationalism that demands one nation one religion and one language aimed at establishing the rule of rich male Brahmins. And when seeing the society with this prism we’d be shocked to see almost everyone in the country is a traitor let it be the Kashmiris or the North Easterns or the Keralites or the Madrasies or the Muslims or or the Christians or the Dalits or the Aboriginals or the Women or the dissents or the intellectuals or the writers or the poets or the students or let it be anyone who doesn’t fit into the agenda of Hindu nationalism.

The only singularity about India is that it can only be described in plurality! As it’s said one language two nations, two language one nation; same can be applied on culture, religion and creed.

The fact that case and religion based violence are on the rise is because of the blatant patronage to such fringe elements by those sitting in the govt. What hope can a country have where a student is booked under sedition for demanding freedom from poverty but a leader urging his followers  to be prepared for final  battle against Muslims remains untouched?

Why won’t the republic witness rise in communal violence in the name of nationalism when it’s being governed by the daughter organization of Italy’s fascist party that draws is idea of nationalism from Europe, rejects the constitution, burns national flag and constructs temples  for the murderer of Gandhi? Have no doubt; what we are witnessing is a radical insurrection against the constitution of India.

But just like capitalism fascism digs its own grave. Such fascist authoritarian approach of this govt has brought the Communists, the Ambedkarits, the Feminists and the liberals together spontaneously.  And we hope these fascists will soon meet their Stalingrad.

Affirmative action and Action!

Freedom can be political, social or economic but in order to have the first two, one must have economic freedom. The reservation policy or what is called ‘affirmative action’ is all about assisting the marginalized sections of society in attaining economic freedom. The critics of this policy might say that economic status must be the criteria for reservation, which simply shows that they are not in touch with the reality of this country.

Caste is class in this nation and this has remained the truth of Indian society for nearly three thousand years. It was the caste factor that decided the economic status of an individual for all these years. So if caste became the basis of political, social and economic injustice, then caste and only caste can be made and remain the basis of political, social and economic justice. There is much to be done in this direction and one critical aspect of that is to take steps to ensure that existing policies work in actual practice.

India is a democratic “welfare state” but today, a sinister public opinion is being built up that projects cheap education as a privilege/ tax-payer’s handout and an expensive education as something very normal.. Now how can a substantial number of Dalit or Adivasi citizens “benefit” from the reservation system when basic education itself IS MADE inaccessible to them?

Unfortunately, India is witnessing a massive war on public education ironically by the State itself that includes slashing the education budget, demeaning government schools, calling off scholarship programs and branding schools as the breeding grounds of Naxal and Maoist movements. As if this wasn’t bad enough, they have started branding universities as anti-national and are actively garnering popular public opinion around that! This entire design works on one simple principle: you drain public offices of funds and make people angry and when people get angry you let private corporations do what the State should have done in the first place.

While it is fair to say that there are many poor people in this country across caste lines, poverty is different from social discrimination and alienation, something only the Dalits and Adivasis of this country have faced for centuries. An inclusive economy, if that indeed is the great Indian dream, can be achieved by declaring the rights to food, education and healthcare as the “fundamental rights” essential of each citizen.

When the State ‘misuses’ reservation and starts handing it out to all and sundry (the Jats are the most recent point in case), it means that not only has it failed to mobilize affirmative action to uplift the Dalits and Adivasis for whom the reservation system was first introduced, it has also failed to alleviate poverty by creating jobs for ALL.
